FIDLAR

The last time I interviewed Zac, FIDLAR was an unsigned local band from LA playing parking lots and skate parks. Flash forward two years and the band has inked a deal with indie mogul Mom+Pop Records, had their album exclusively debuted through Pitchfork Media, played countless festivals, toured across Europe, started a Youtube phenomenon, and sold 20,000 records in two months all based on the philosophy “Don’t Try.” I spoke to Zac before a sold out show with WAVVES and this is what he had to say regarding life and the band’s recent success. SIIK

The first time you hear a Siik remix, you just want more. This creative from California has a very unique library of music and the knowledge to take advantage of it when creating mixes. Any more and you’re dividing that awesomeness among too many things.” The two things that he’s currently focusing on are making videos/short films and film photography. Read more…

Luckily, rock and roll ain’t about smart moves. The serendipitous happenings that lead the Highways to the islands have become their bond, and instead of treating their separation from the industry as a disability, the band uses the isolation to take a more clear-headed approach to creating.
