M
STRKRFT - \ˈmas-tərˈkraft\ an electronic duo from Canada—namely JFK and AL-P—that came to rock Honolulu’s Nextdoor Nightclub. Upon entrance the taller moustache cracks into a bottle of Crown, hits 90º for about 4 seconds—crowd goes wild. Their deep collection of well-done remixes was enough to lure me for $20. But I confess, seeing the tall mustache dude flipped a DFA 1979 switch. Got me wishing for a genre jump right that second. It would’ve been nice to see some rock and roll. Moving on.

About 10 minutes into the show, something amazing took shape. The two became one. With a broken water bag and the decks in labor, they morphed into a single mustachioed siamese surgeon. Who does that kind of shit? MSTRKRFT, that’s who. Dialed in and synched up. Truly masters at their craft.

Dancing to “Neon Knight,” the crowd was in an overdrive sweat-fest. Visuals were entertaining with images of old kung fu movies, random—laser like—motion graphics, clips from Bruce Campbell flicks, all looped and synched to the music. Drank more juice, threw some glow sticks around, then went to Zippy’s Restaurant and took a sleepy dump. Staggered to the parking lot and took an asphalt nap while waiting for the others to finish their meals.

Oh Jesus, did that really happen? I guess it did. Aloha and mahalos MSTRKRFT. Mission complete.
