My Dad likes Jenny Lewis. So do my weird hipster friends. And apparently so do Bob Dylan and Elvis Costello. No matter what your opinion, you must admit that the girl has got range. The alt-country songstress known for her co-captain duties in Rilo Kiley and collaborations with the Postal Service has also made a name for herself through her solo work. On her sophomore effort,
Acid Tongue (2008), you’ll find carefully crafted alt-country bluesy pop songs; each with an identity all their own. Lewis has the ability to effortlessly execute both a storytelling aspect and easy melody in her music, a quality that has certainly gained her the respect of her peers and critics alike. Lewis possesses the appreciation and lust for life that appears to be lacking in the independent music world today. She has been touring constantly and recording for a number of years and shows no signs of burning herself out. Luckily
Contrast was able to keep pace with her long enough to squeeze in a few questions on her trip to Hawai‘i.
