By now the Blue Scholars established that they got love for the 808. The 808 has been showing love back by pushing their EP called
Oof! to the top of iTunes hip-hop downloads and packing each of their live shows in Hawai‘i. The video for the lead track off the album, “HI-808” was filmed in Hawai‘i, displaying local backdrops and living. Before their recent success, Geo, one-half of the duo, used to call Hawai‘i home. His father was in the Navy and was stationed in Hawai‘i from 1982 to 1991. The young and observant Geo embraced Hawai‘i’s culture long enough for it to leave a lasting impression.
Geo eventually moved to Seattle, where he discovered his love for hip-hop. He sites the influences of Seattle’s DV One (who is one of Seattle’s most famous DJs) and producers Vitamin D and Jake One, who just dropped an album with ex-Rocafella rapper, Freeway. He also respects and speaks highly of Seattle emcee Wordsayer from the group Source of Labor for being the glue of Seattle hip-hop from the early nineties till now.
