Crooks & Castles Honolulu

Thursday, September 2nd, 2010

Los Angeles based Crooks & Castles is jumping the pond over to Hawaii (can you blame them) and opening their Hawaii retail store at 641 Keeaumoku Street, hostess bar central, and right around the corner from Kicks Hawaii. Free Ace of Spades champagne to celebrate, since I can’t afford that I plan on aku birding.  Crooks has been a staple here in Hawaii for the past couple years, so it only makes sense to open up shop here. Check out some of the limited edition Hawaii themed shirts available for the opening here on their blog. Doors officially open at 11am.

Chinaman’s Hat

Friday, August 27th, 2010

Took this photo of Chinaman’s Hat several weeks ago with my holga. Film: Kodak EPP 120 format; cross processed.

I’m so glad it’s Friday… it’s been a tough week and it’s only going to get worse from here on… hope the weekend makes up for it.

Have a great weekend!

6th Annual Shorebreak Classic

Wednesday, August 25th, 2010

This Saturday from 8am - 4pm is The Peter Miller Foundation Annual Shorebreak Classic at Kalama Beach in Kailua. This FREE contest is put on by Mike Miller, with the help of many sponsors, in memory of his twin brother Peter Miller and good friends Jason Bogle and David Aluli. All three were Kailua natives and very talented surfers, that were unfortunately taken before their time. This event is livecated to them and is all about the groms! Tons of product giveaways, free lunch and ice cream for all contestants and hopefully some surf! To read more about the foundation, go to the foundation website here. Or if you have our Goin’ Places issue, you can read our piece with Mike Miller for more insight.

I remember as a grom seeing The Miller Brothers, and what looked like a Mini-Miller Brother (Bogle), owning and shredding Pyramid Rock. Getting the best waves and the biggest barrels. And one kona wind evening, I remember seeing Aluli do the scariest floater at North Beach. These dudes dominated!!

Here’s another photo I took on my Blackbird Fly TLR camera several weeks ago on the North Shore. Film: Agfa CT Precisa 100 35mm color slide film; cross processed. Don’t you just love horses? I do…

Happy Tuesday… two days down, three more to go…

Analog Sunshine Recorders this Saturday at Manifest!

Thursday, August 19th, 2010

Please come to Manifest this Saturday for the opening of the Analog Sunshine Recorders photo exhibit! My friends have been working really hard the past few days putting up over 200+ photos from 12 different artists while I’m a prisoner here at my work cubicle. All photos were shot on film in various speeds and sizes. Everyone has some really amazing pieces of work… makes me quite intimidated to be honest, but that’s ok… consider my photos an element of total randomness in the bunch! Haha! It’ll be a lot of fun, so please drop by… it’s the last weekend to get nuts before school is back in session! Don’t be square… be there!

Lighthouse + Weekends

Friday, August 6th, 2010

Took this photo with my Diana+ at Lighthouse last weekend. So glad today is Friday and another weekend lies ahead… I wish weekends consisted of 5 days and the work week consisted of only 2 days instead… that’d be nice.

Have a great weekend!
