Rage 4 Haiti

Friday, January 22nd, 2010

HONOLULU – RAGE FOR HAITI is a way to raise awareness of the catastrophic earthquake that has killed thousands of people in Haiti. We’re just a group of girls who wanted to get involved in some shape or form to raise money for the victims of Haiti. Figured everyone likes to go out, so why not for a good cause?! Rage for Haiti is the perfect solution to get the community involved. 100% of door proceeds and all monies raised through the silent and live auction will be donated to the Clinton Bush Haiti Fund (http://clintonbushhaitifund.org).

At President Obama’s request, President Clinton and President Bush have partnered up to help with the relief efforts in Haiti. The Clinton Bush Haiti Fund will work to provide immediate relief and long-term support to earthquake survivor and channel the collective goodwill around the globe to help the people of Haiti rebuild their cities, their neighborhoods, and their families.

A silent and live auction will be held at Soho from 7-9pm with great items such as Zak Noyle photography, surf boards, gift certificates from local businesses, concert tickets courtesy of BAMP productions, superb wine, and more! An amazing live auction will be held from 9-9:30pm where a few lovely ladies have volunteered to be auctioned off for dates!

ONE night, THREE venues, GREAT music, AMAZING auction items, and the gift of GIVING to a great cause all for only $15 at the door or $10 presale (available at UH Campus Center, Manifest, and Fitted). 100% is going to ClintonBushHaitiFund. Deck The Halls Skateboard Deck Art Show @ Manifest
A benefit for Kenny Brimer and his fight against Leukemia

So I got to Deck The Halls a bit on the early side. All of the decks were hung and Kavet was getting the name tags situated with the help of Lofa and our buddy Luke. Since I was there before the spot got really crowded, I took the opportunity to get a good look at all of the submissions.

Everything looked pretty amazing. Acrylic, enamel, paint pens, wood working…

It was a really eclectic assortment unified by a common starting point. Kenny himself, knows his way around a brush and painted a robin egg blue board with red hearts outlined in black. I asked him how much it was selling for…he told me someone already bought it. Snooze you loose. His deck shined. (pictured above)

That red deck with a profile of The Colonel (Kyle Collins) by Jeremy costed extra. Well, I don’t really know if it did but if you know Kyle then you know that it should have.

I got a chance to snap a pic of Chad (left) and Kenny (right). I don’t think I’ve ever seen a bigger smile on Chad’s face. But I guess I saw a lot of those types of smiles that night. Always a good thing. Don’t Sleep.

Still Gold

Friday, July 3rd, 2009

I stumbled upon this photo of Moe aka Moedigs and his brother Jon while I was looking through some older snapshots. It was taken at the Stay Gold art show back in January of this year. I think it was the first time I saw Moe since he had made his move to California… and the first time I had been to the Blue Hawaii Gallery in Kalihi (Check out Basil’s [Jumbo Karakuchi] artwork on their website). Good times with good friends. Anyway, here are a few more stills from that night. Still Gold.

Paint by Moe. The piece on the top is one that he did with Woebots which was featured on notcot.com in print form.

Woebots on metal. This is a small crop of a metal box that stood about 2 feet tall. The structure was painted on all sides and could open like a locker.

Jerk in 3D.

myCryptonauts by Aaron Lee. Aaron was the lab instructor during my first semester in the design program at the university.

Prints by Tes One.

Photographs by Jon “Amazing Panoramas” Radke.

Work by Jeff Sanner. Jeff also made that amazing ad for Five to Nine in Contrast’s premiere issue.

Re-Up *EDIT & UPDATE*

Monday, November 24th, 2008

**Due to “Rain-hype-fest 2008″ over the weekend (and the subsequent landslide it created at Waimea Valley), the Fundraiser venue has been changed to Haleiwa Joe’s. Event starts at 9pm, same date and same entertainment, except it’s now next to the iconic Rainbow Bridge at Haleiwa Joe’s. Come and support! Breasts are important.

Keep A Breast Hawaii will take place on Wednesday November 26th at Haleiwa Joe’s, a premiere venue on Oahu’s North Shore. The goal of this event is to raise consciousness and awareness for breast cancer, while benefiting The Keep A Breast Foundation and The Rell Sunn Education Fund. Keep A Breast Hawaii is set to be THE event on the North Shore this winter by bringing together a unique mix of artists, musicians, surfin’ super stars and legends. It is also presented with support from SMART Magazine, Contrast Magazine, Aloha Army and DORK.

Keep A Breast Hawaii will feature customized plaster breast casts from more than 15 top Hawaii artists, including Angry Woebots, Heather Brown, Clark Takashima, Ckaweeks, Pancho Abalos and many more. These casts will be on display and auctioned off at the event. Many of the casts to be displayed are of professional surfers, skaters and snowboarders, such as Rochelle Ballard, Megan Abubo, Chanelle Sladics, Kassia Meador, Shea Hodges and Vanessa Torres to name a few.

Hosted by B-Ware, Emergen-C and ROXY.
