Apple iPad aka The Big iPhone

Wednesday, January 27th, 2010

“Our most advanced technology in a magical revolutionary device at an unbelievable price.”– Apple on the iPad

Today Apple, the big dog in the computer and technology industry, finally introduced the long-awaited iPad. Retailing for $499 this device is suppose to smoke the Amazon Kindle (which retails for $259). The iPad will be available for purchase in March/April. And, will probably have geeks, techies, hipsters, trendsetters and soccer moms lining up like lemmings on the side of a cliff at Apple Stores nationwide. I guaranty people will take the plunge, buy the iPad and Apple will sell out. The success of Apple’s latest piece of have-to-have technology is yet to be determined, but rest assured that if you already have an iPhone 3Gs then the iPad is not much of an upgrade.

Contrast on ‘Āha’i ‘Ōlelo Ola

Wednesday, January 27th, 2010

A couple weeks ago we had the pleasure of meeting with Ku’uwehi from KGMB9’s Hawaiian Language News Show ‘Āha’i ‘Ōlelo Ola. I was a little nervous about meeting up with her, as my two years of Hawaiian Language class in high school had worn off and I only remember how to say “‘O Race ko’u inoa.” Luckily the interview was done in english and subtitles added later. My favorite parts are that our editor Daniel Ito is also known as “The Ito” and Ito drops the word contrast about 9 times.

Big Mahalo to Steve, Grace & Hawaii News Now as well as Ku’uwehi and ‘Āha’i ‘Ōlelo Ola!
And thanks Steve for saying we’re taking Hawaii into the new decade! Don’t know what that means, but it sure sounds exciting!

Gravis Expedition Series For V-Day

Tuesday, January 26th, 2010

Someone tell my girl that this is what I want for Valentine’s Day! I was killing time by scrolling through Twitter and came across this dope Gravis Expedition collection designed by Benny Gold.

I’m not friends with Benny, but here is how HighSnobiety.com defines that dude: Benny Gold is an independent graphic designer that specializes in logo design and apparel graphics. He is best known for his work with Huf and Mash. Benny has created the original identities, for both brands. In addition to freelancing, he has debuted his signature clothing label.

This pack is due out mid-February so I don’t know if it’ll be available before 2/14/10, but I’m crossing my fingers for V-Day.

To avoid the VOG that had been smothering Honolulu over the weekend, I headed out East to get some fresh air and frolic in the tropical water. I recently found my cannon elph sport camera that I’ve had for years and brought it along (damn, film is expensive). It was fun lying in a few feet of water as small waves rolled in to the sandbar, but I don’t know how the pros do it at huge Pipeline. That’s scary!

I love the name of honor, more than I fear death

Friday, January 22nd, 2010

The Volcom Pipeline Pro holding period starts tomorrow, although it’s not looking like it’s going to run till next week. Conditions permitting. This is a five star WQS contest with a $120,000 prize purse. Pipeline has never had a contest like this outside of the PipeMasters. Considering the risk and skill needed to surf Pipe well, this contest is long overdue for a nice prize purse and a five star rating. Being that the majority of the international pros have gone home for the winter, the contestant lineup is looking heavily local, something us locals can appreciate.
There will be a live webcast during the contest at: http://www.volcompipelinepro.com/
You will also be able to watch it on Digital Cable Channel 250 (1250 for HD)!

Be sure to head over the “Warriors” section for interviews with some of the contestants like Dave Wassel (femur much?), Cheeseburger or our very own Jason Shibata.

I’m loving the gladiator theme to the contest, I’m sure Volcom will have some tasteful surprises for the contest like they do for all their contests.

Red wire and yellow wire go to…um, huh? Webcast dudes setting up in the old Gerry house.

The Arena. Stay tuned: Jan 23rd through Feb 5th.

Someone once told me that people love the ukulele in the UK. I was like, “Yeah? That’s cool.” But I didn’t really believe it. Then I came across this femme fatale—Sophie Madeleine. Love.Life.Ukulele.

when you saw this dudes art back then, someone would be horking lines off the crack of someone ass and you’d be paying too much for something. when you see this shit now, it means “we soak feet & do buzz cuts.” It’s all the same, only the names will change - bon jovi?
