This sequence is of 17 year old John John Florence getting shacked at the Pipeline. With this 9.63 scoring bomb he advanced to the semi-finals of the Volcom Pipeline Pro along with Jamie O’brien.  Not bad, kid.

Couple sneak peaks coming from the Channel Islands board blog…both of them are Kelly Slater shapes/designs. First one inspired by u-class racing boats and the second with an asymmetrical tail (and fin placement?)…hahrang.
To me, it just looks ugly.

4-6 ft. swell & mostly backdoor rights greated day 2 of the Volcom Pipeline Pro.  Day 2 standout was North Carolina’s Brett Barley with a 19.60.  By the time i set up my tripod conditions turned to shit and they called off the contest.  Luckily Contrast intern Kate Adams shot a couple stills. .

This past wednesday, I had heard rumors of a Sailor Jerry’s open bar, with GRLFRNDS playing. Whenever I hear open bar, I assume it’s for 15 minutes and I see one free drink, then $8 drinks after that. But, to my surprise, it was free sailor jerry drinks for two straight hours and a lively set by GRLFRNDS to cap off the two hours. For those that don’t know, Sailor Jerry’s Rum recipe is based off a personal recipe of Sailor Jerry that was found in his belongings after he passed away. Norman “Sailor Jerry” Collins is most known for his amazing, bold, iconic tattooing and coincidentally, his last tattoo parlor was on Hotel street in Chinatown Honolulu.

Thanks Norm, your rum is delicious.

The space that Manifest is at was actually a tattoo parlor back in the day. But not Sailor Jerry’s. In fact, there’s a chance that every space in Chinatown was either a bar or tattoo parlor at one point in history. I just think they’re all haunted.

Went down to Pipeline yesterday to find sunny conditions and perfect 6-8 ft. waves for the Volcom Pipeline Pro.  I shot mostly video (which i will be posting soon).  Also a couple line-up shots.  Stay tuned as the contrast crew will be heading down to the pipe to catch some more wave slaying.
