Pepper will be playing a special fundraiser for Delta Thompson this Sunday at the Kona Mixx Plate.

Pepper will be playing a special fundraiser for Delta Thompson this Sunday at the Kona Mixx Plate.

Hawai‘i’s favorite dub-punk band Pepper will be playing a special show this Sunday, March 1st, at the Kona Mixx Plate as a fundraiser for Delta Thompson and his battle with lung cancer. Bruddah Delts has been undergoing chemotherapy for the last month and has unfortunately been forced to use a wheel chair. Thompson is one of the owners and founders of the clothing company FBI (From the Big Island) and was known to be a health nut, running, drinking smoothies and bodysurfing daily. Despite being a haole boy he personified Hawaiian culture and the aloha spirit proudly. His form of lung cancer is hereditary and claimed the lives of his father and grandfather. Please come out on Sunday to support Delta, rock out to Pepper and show your aloha for one of Hawai‘i Island’s iconic figures.

Different Star

Wednesday, February 25th, 2009

Check out Different Star, a gallery showing by Basil Karakuchi happening from March 2nd to the 25th at the Blue Hawai‘i Kalihi Gallery. I first met Basil a while back at Kinkos while he was printing out a line sheet of clean and creative t-shirt designs for August Kinetics. For this show, he plans to display a bunch of different pieces which will range from printed canvas’ to quilts.

Blue DSi

Tuesday, February 24th, 2009

I couldn’t help myself today. While killing time at GameStop, I couldn’t help but notice the full display wall of empty Nintendo DSi boxes, shining at me and catching my attention like a glass mirror’s blinding reflection in the sun. How could I not look? To keep a short story short… I ended up reserving myself a blue Nintendo DSi with a $25 deposit. It took me a whole 3 minutes to decide whether or not I should reserve one… but temptation succeeded, as usual. It ships on April 5th. I’m bad.

New Vidz

Tuesday, February 24th, 2009

For all you who only read the blog, we’ve got three new videos to watch over on Contrast TV. The screenshot above is from Darin Lee’s upcoming skatefilm, called “The Everydays”.

There’s also a new TimeWasterz show featuring Portland’s Menomena.

And then there’s a new Lancifer Visual clip about Kekoa “BAM” Bacalso preparing for the biggest year of his life on professional surfing’s World Championship Tour. The clip was also featured on SURFLINE. If you listen carefully, you can hear the crowd (and Lance) yelping during one of Bam’s high scoring waves.

Teaser…

Sunday, February 22nd, 2009

Meet the ever-so-lovely Mahina! She will be featured in Contrast’s next fashion spread, and she is a real trooper, might I add! Here is a teaser sample for your viewing pleasure. We were up bright and early this morning and headed out to the North Shore with a trunk full of clothes, accessories and a crap load of toys (cameras, that is). A short hike aside a windy dirt road, Matsumoto’s Shave Ice, briefly getting caught in the rain, contemplating chasing chickens and hopping barbed-fence wires, meeting friendly strangers on the beach, numerous wardrobe changes in the back of a “Grease Lightning” van, truck stops, jump starts, bright yellow walls and honking horns… who knew work could be this fun?!

Chee-hu! Pepper rocked the Pipeline Cafe last night courtesy of BAMP projects. Mahalo Kaleo, Bret, Yesod and Remy for bringing the “woooo party” vibe to the show. The band killed it, but there was one Moke, his stocky girlfriend and four trog friends who was killing the good times of many of the fans. They stood all the way in front of the stage, dropped people who were crowd surfing, and would proceed to punch, stomp and kick crowd surfers on the ground. Not cool! I even saw the stocky GF ground and pound a teenage boy who was intentionally dropped by said trogs while crowd surfing. I picked him up, shielded him from the violent group of party poopers, and tried to make it cool. I did this twice. Once with the aforementioned grom and another time with a random haole guy. But, this Moke and his harem of trogs persisted to too demand personal space and were violent to anybody that bumped them. If you’re not down to get bumped, be sweaty or pushed from time to time then get out of the frickin’ pit! Respect the Rock Show, people. We all want to have a good time and rock.
