Angry Woebots' Boobs Cast

Angry Woebots' Boobs Cast (Pancho's cast on the right)

Live painting at Haleiwa Joe's.

Live painting on Haleiwa Joe's back lawn.

DJ’s. Artists. Hipsters. Industry heads. Pros. Hoes. Weirdos. Creepers. Well-wishers. Fundraisers. Lifeguards. Media. Chicks. Dudes. Fashionitas. Cougars. Designers. Rastas. Surfers. Skaters. Spongers. All flocked to Haleiwa Joe’s in The Country on Wed. Nov. 26, 2008 for Keep A Breast Hawaii fundraiser presented by B-Ware, Emergen-C, Aloha Army, Roxy and of course, Contrast. Pro surfers lend their bosoms to the breast casts that were painted by talented Hawaii artists, like Angry Woebots, Ckaweeks, Heather Brown, Clark Takashima, Pancho Abalos, etc.

Big ups to Jim Browskee, Eskae and the other DJ’s that had the crowd of international, female pro surfers getting nuts on the dance floor. Shout out to the Pocket Full of Monsters and Ground Up crews for creating some mental live painting and breast cast art. Holla to R. Kelly for hooking up the Vitamin Waters. We had a great time and thanks to all those that put on the party. Proceeds from the event went to fund breast cancer awareness and research through the Keep A Breast Foundation and The Rell Sunn Educational Fund (RIP).

Rally Round the (Upside Down) Flag.

Tuesday, November 25th, 2008

University of Hawai‘i Professor Lilikala Kameʻeleihiwa leads approximately 400 people in a "Impeach Lingle" chant. The upside down Hawaiian flag signifies a nation in distress.

Approximately 400 people gathered at the State Capitol yesterday to protest the Lingle Administration’s appeal to the U.S. Supreme Court regarding “Ceded Lands.” Nov. 24, 2008 was also the 15-year-anniversary of the signing of the Apology Resolution, an official apology from the U.S. government to the Native Hawaiian people for the U.S. role in the illegal overthrow of the Hawaiian Kingdom. Btw, mahalo Clinton Administration.

This Apology Resolution was the basis for the unanimous decision by the Hawa‘i‘i State Supreme Court on Jan. 31, 2008. The ruling by Hawai‘i‘s highest court recognized Native Hawaiians’ unrelinquished claims to “Ceded Lands” and imposed a moratorium of the sale of “Ceded Lands” until Native Hawaiians’ claims are resolved. “Ceded Lands” refers to the 1.8 million acres of land that belonged to the Hawaiian monarchy prior to the overthrow of the Hawaiian Kingdom on Jan. 17, 1893. When Hawaiʻi became a U.S. state, the lands were transferred to the state. The federal act authorizing the transfer required that the lands be held in trust and that revenue from the land be used to support public education, provision of lands for public use and fund Native Hawaiian programs.

The Lingle Administration is appealing the State’s ruling to the U.S. Supreme Court. As a result, protesters yesterday demanded Gov. Lingle to withdraw this appeal because of the precedence it would create against Native Hawaiian programs and institutions, like the Kamehameha Schools and OHA.

Yesterday’s rally was organized by a group of students and graduates of the William S. Richardson School of Law called the Kupa‘aina Colaition. Btw, mahalo Ashley, Pali and Scott.

Please demand that Lingle’s appeal to the Supreme Court is withdrawn. Call Gov. Lingle’s Office at (808) 586-0034 or e-mail her at governor.lingle@hawaii.gov.

Re-Up *EDIT & UPDATE*

Monday, November 24th, 2008

**Due to “Rain-hype-fest 2008″ over the weekend (and the subsequent landslide it created at Waimea Valley), the Fundraiser venue has been changed to Haleiwa Joe’s. Event starts at 9pm, same date and same entertainment, except it’s now next to the iconic Rainbow Bridge at Haleiwa Joe’s. Come and support! Breasts are important.

Keep A Breast Hawaii will take place on Wednesday November 26th at Haleiwa Joe’s, a premiere venue on Oahu’s North Shore. The goal of this event is to raise consciousness and awareness for breast cancer, while benefiting The Keep A Breast Foundation and The Rell Sunn Education Fund. Keep A Breast Hawaii is set to be THE event on the North Shore this winter by bringing together a unique mix of artists, musicians, surfin’ super stars and legends. It is also presented with support from SMART Magazine, Contrast Magazine, Aloha Army and DORK.

Keep A Breast Hawaii will feature customized plaster breast casts from more than 15 top Hawaii artists, including Angry Woebots, Heather Brown, Clark Takashima, Ckaweeks, Pancho Abalos and many more. These casts will be on display and auctioned off at the event. Many of the casts to be displayed are of professional surfers, skaters and snowboarders, such as Rochelle Ballard, Megan Abubo, Chanelle Sladics, Kassia Meador, Shea Hodges and Vanessa Torres to name a few.
