Record Club is a loose collective of some of the most prolific musicians in (indie) rock, and the brainchild of alt-rock wizard Beck Hansen. their aim is to cover another artists ENTIRE album in ONE day. pretty gnarnuts. some recent collaborators include: mgmt, wolfmother, fields, liars, wilco, os mutantes, little joy (chee!), and showcased in the video clip; annie clarke of st vincent, masterfully covering INXS’ “need you tonight.” her guitar riff at the end is fucking cash! try spock…
(for more on Little Joy and St Vincent, check one of my old entries)

last year, behind waterlogged eyes, i posted an overtly eeem’s i-wish-i-could-be-at-coachella-right-now entry. here lies my coachella redemption. bags packed, mp3 player’s capacity maxed, beer goggles freshly polished; its high time for the jahwaiians to drop some heavy water in the desert once again. with the kind of firepower this years roster boasts, there’s sure to be more than a few boner-kills in the bunch. but i’m pretty confident that i’ve got the stage-to-stage hop scotch action down to a science….fiction (garenz to miss some greatness whilst witnessing other greatness.) one thing that’s sure to ease the sting of missed opportunity is the E to the mother fucking PIC party that we campers are being treated to. DUBSTEP AND HIP HOP TILL 3 AM?? GASLAMP KILLER?? MARY ANNE HOBBS?? FLY LO??? DAEDELUS??? NOBODY??? WTFUDGE!!!!!

A spin-off of the Sister Act franchise entitled “Hipster Act?” Nope, just a classroom full of kids. Epic, epic kids…

Meet Tokimonsta, the latest addition to the always-illin’ Brainfeeder camp (Flying Lotus, Daedalus, etc). Born Jennifer Lee and raised in Torrance, CA, she’s a classically trained clarinetist and pianist who taught herself to play the drums and guitar at an early age. Sitting down to her many remixes and original beats, one is able to discern subtle hints of traditional Korean percussion throughout, as well as impossible to avoid nods to the likes of Dilla, Flylo, Shadow and other masters. Even with the inevitable comparison or two, she seems to (much like another favorite of mine, Greetings From Tuskan) be able to cook up a sound that no other may lay claim to. Expect big things from the Monsta in the coming months.
