Cereal. You all need to stop sleeping on this party. I am kinda torn in sharing this because I wanna be greedy and keep this one to myself. But at the same time this party should easily be one of the most anticipated nights of the month. Happens every 2nd Friday at the Mercury Bar, nestled at the end of Chaplain Lane, perfect for wanting to avoid the chinatown bar-muda triangle. DJ’s Jim Jones and Lil’ Teeth play a wide range from Indie to Hip Hop to Ghettotech to Dep Mode, they got it covered. I’d say start going to this event now before the line starts cornering Bethel St.
Nexus 6. Friday. 06.11.10 Mercury Bar.
Alright we got comic expos, anime expos, import car shows, sake tasting events, wedding expos, heck even Kikaida got his own expo here. But why don’t we have any new media expos in Honolulu, or technology expos? sup wit it! or is there one already? I need to know what the next level of raving is being raised to people!
To this day Justin Abilla will not give me a free Olivia sticker. Serves me right for being the cheapskate that I can be sometimes. But still, its the principal, and its just a sticker! C’mon man! Anyway, homeboy Cavan of the now resurrected, Pettyfords, thru me a text that NSU boyz, Olivia was playing a show this past friday at Fresh Cafe, I could not pass up the opp to sneak in and catch the show. I used the ol’ i’m on my cell phone and walking in really fast trick, and dodged the $8 cover. The vibe was great, reminiscent of the X-Factory, sans ska-punk kids, all replaced by nu-hardcore kids. The kids still love pop punk! Olivia was almost in original cast, some new guy I didnt recognize was playing Gabe’s parts, he was busting some madonna airs so he got a pass. Was great to see Christian dwarfing the drumset as usual, Reid was all veiny neck but without Jew fro, and Justin had a dumb red crooked out Padres fitted on. It was a lot of fun and Olivia still sounds tighter than ever!
The song above is one of my faves, dont know the title but I like to think its about drop kneeing at Ehukai. Remember that sick drop knee centerfold spread Christian had in Bodyboarder Mag, I think he was using a t&c mini pro too?! craze!
3toad films wins Showdown in Chinatown short film contest this month with this charm filled moment thats all to familiar with almost everyone. The same dudes covered on Contrast TV’s Time Wasterz, shot this one entirely on one of those new Canon SLR MKII 5d thingamajigs, no need to get all nerd on it, just know that its shoots some shrang lookin stuff. Staring Darius Legg, Shelby McCabe, and special cameo by Oliver Boe of The Jump Offs. If you got 5 minutes, enjoy.
so yeah, i been asleep. the corporate world got me cuffed to my office chair for the past few months. i am writing this post in hopes it will give me the ol’ shot in the arm to edit some tapes that have been sitting not on my shelf, but still in my camera, for some new ContrastTV episodes. may the spirit of david caruso guide me.
I was walking back home from a haircut down Waialae Ave when i peered into a vacant space and saw this dude drawing a huge charcoal mural on the wall, all free hand, straight from the dome. Then I remembered homie Sarah Honda from HIFF telling me about a show coming up!
Its this dude Rinus Van de Velde, from Belgium.

500 Days of Summer, opens next week. Supposedly will be the romantic dramedy or the summer. We slept on this at Sundance back in January, actually we didnt cos it was sold out. Anywho, point being this movie made it into Sundance and Away We Go didn’t. Not that Sundance is the gauge of what to see and what not to see, but its a pretty good indicator of what you should be hyped on. Looks like a feel goodery to me, its current, relevant, and witty. She go.
